A description is presented of practical methods for etching moire test grids of 20 lines/mm (500 lines/ in) maximum, in steel. Good reproducibility and quality are assured and no sophisticated apparatus is required. The test plates are not specially prepared and the techniques allow the production of the grids on parts of full–scale structures and components.
