Load cells are precision electronic weighing devices, capable of extremely high accuracies, provided that the application is correct. Most cells are designed with the knowledge that there are very few ideal situations but owing to design limitations, external factors and economics, it is not possible to produce perfect units to suit all applications. The methods of installation and use govern the accuracy which is obtained. The principles of construction and application of the bonded strain gauge type of load cell are stated and the methods employed to achieve high accuracy are explained.
