A design of loading shackles for a tensile testing machine is described, that distributes the concentrated force of the machine uniformly over 6‐in width. Each shackle consists of two 6‐in beams connected to the loading points by tensile strips of different cross‐sections so that the loading points carry equal forces and remain at the same level relative to each other.
