Summary A description is given of the design and construction of a short, simple, self‐aligning load cell used in confined spaces. The cell, capable of very good accuracy, consists of a thick diaphragm and a self‐aligning anvil with two electrical strain gauges fixed on the underside of the diaphragm. The signal output against load characteristic is linear, and loads up to several tons can be measured.
