The effects of ectoparasites on the body mass of Sand Martin Riparia riparia nestlings were experimentally tested. Chicks from nests treated with a pesticide to kill arthropod ectoparasites were heavier than chicks from control nests, indicating that ectoparasitism may be a cost for Sand Martins.
