SUMMARY By means of scanning electron microscopy and X‐ray probe analysis the eggshells of several species of tinamou and jaçana have been investigated. A plugged pore system has been shown which were hitherto unrevealed by other methods. The plug in the pore of the tinamou was rich in sulphur and that of the jaçana eggshell contained upwards of 5% iron.
