Summary The results of an expedition to Endau, an isolated mountain in eastern Kenya which retains a cap of mist‐forest, are described. The avifauna of the forest was found to be remarkably poor despite apparently favourable conditions, and a number of forest species found in similar isolated residual hilltop forests were absent. Notably no representative of the genus Turdus was found. Possible explanations of these anomalies are discussed.
