SUMMARY This paper revises the genus Durula and discusses the affinities of some related genera. The genus Ducula is very close to Ptilinopus, D. poliocephala and its allies forming a connecting link between the two genera. The pied imperial pigeons are the most discrete group within Ducula. Ducula paulina and D. oenolhorax are treated as races of D. aena. There are indications that Lopho‐laimus and Hcmiphaga may be more closely related to each other than to Ducula. They are retained as monotypic genera. Drepanoptila and Alectroenas are offshots from Ptilinopus.
