Summary.1 The ecology of the members of the family Megapodiidae is discussed. 2 The various types of mounds used in the incubation of the eggs are reviewed, and the methods used by the birds to maintain the egg temperature at the required level are described. It is pointed out that some very complicated methods of temperature regulation exist. 3 The breeding seasons are discussed, and it is postulated that the breeding season in Leipoa is limited by natural selection operating through food supply against the adults. 4 Clutch size is determined by the length of the breeding season.
