SUMMARY .A brood of Picumnus minutissimus was watched from October to March in Surinam. The circular nesting cavity in a dead branch of Erythrina glauca about 8 metres above the ground was carved by both birds. At first it was used as a sleeping place by two males and one female, but after incubation had been in progress for some time by only the female and one male. Incubation was shared by both sexes. They were very restless and peeped out of the hole at frequent intervals. There was only one youngster, to which both parents took food in the bill. The young bird left the hole when about 28 days old. Thereafter all three birds continued sleeping in it for at least 62 days.
