In this paper we undertake a case study of two patients with moderate dysphasia. The patients are evaluated using a set of lexical richness measures which have been tested previously on a larger sample. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the usefulness of evaluating dysphasic patients on conversational speech and to detail the role of extensive linguistic analysis in the prognosis and therapy of patients. The technique used in this paper quantifies word frequency related measures and involves a detailed linguistic treatment of the data obtained through transcription. The evaluation brings out both qualitative and quantitative differences between the two patients considered and discusses the different nature of disorders in the two patients whilst comparing them to a set of normal controls. The paper discusses the usefulness of the proposed techniques for language therapists and highlights the advantage of evaluating impaired conversational speech for patient rehabilitation.
