Summary Only a few nail dystrophies may be improved by surgery: malalignment of the big toenail, racquet thumbs, trapezoidal nails, and vertical implantation of the nail on the fifth toe. Knowledge of the surgical management of these deformities may allow a nice cosmetic outcome if performed by skilled surgeons.
