Summary We proposed the term photoeducation in 1988 1 to integrate the basic concepts of sun protection in one word: why, how, when, and how much one should protect the skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation (UVR). Subsequent use of the word expanded the concept further, emphasizing the positive and negative role of sunlight in man and nature.
