The impact of ozone on the immunity‐impairing activity of aflatoxin B 1 (AFB 1 ) was studied. Phagocytosis by rat peritoneal macrophages, which was found to be suppressed in the presence of AFB 1 , remained unimpaired when the applied AFB 1 was pretreated with ozone (1.2 mg 1 ‐1 ) for 6 min at a flow rate of 40 ml min ‐1 . Hence, application of ozone on AFB 1 ‐contaminated foodcrops seems to be a promising preventive measure against any adverse immunological disorder in consumers.
