Biodegradation of lignocellulosic materials by Flavobacterium sp. showed a remarkable increase when pre‐treated with gamma irradiation. The percent increase in the overall degradation of pre‐treated materials ranged between 137% ( Robinia bark) and 456% ( Pinus wallichiana wood). Maximum sugars released and proteins formed were from the needles of Cedrus deodara when subjected to degradation by the bacterium. In general, needles were more susceptible to the degradative action of Flavobacterium sp. followed by barks and woody materials.
