A total of 342 samples of smallgoods was examined for the presence of Listeria. Listeria monocytogenes was recovered from 45 samples (13·2%), L. innocua from 82 samples (24·0%), L. welshimeri from four samples (1·2%) and L. seeligeri from three samples (0·9%).
