When grown under glasshouse conditions, peanut plants can be invaded by Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus from soil or seed as early as the time of emergence from the soil. Systemic infections may become established. The fungi can spread throughout the plants, though prevalence is higher in parts nearer the soil. Aspergillus flavus is more invasive than A. parasiticus under these conditions.
