Reproducibility of the Biken test for detection of the LT‐enterotoxin of Escherichia coli was evaluated at various concentrations of lincomycin and polymyxin B sulphate. Since 14 out of 65 clinical isolates could not grow at the recommended concentration (90 μ g/ml) of lincomycin, the standard test was modified by reducing its concentration from 90 μ g/ml to 60 μ g/ml and by reducing the concentration of polymyxin B from 500 IU to 300 IU.
