The fluorescence of Clostridium perfringens by biosynthesis of porphyrins and demetallation of haem

All 100 strains of Clostridium perfringens studied showed porphyrin fluorescence due to synthesis on a special medium. A majority (84%) of the same strains were capable of porphyrin fluorescence by the removal of iron from haem.
