A monoclonal antibody (MAb) specific for heat‐treated Salmonella spp. which shows no cross‐reactivity with other enteric bacteria when tested by an ELISA system, has been developed. The MAb isotype is IgG2a and has been successfully purified using protein A. Preliminary work suggests that the MAb recognizes a protein present in the Boivin lipopolysaccharide extracts of Salmonella spp.
