A biotyping scheme for the discrimination of Salmonella montevideo is described. Among a series of 622 isolates, the majority representing Scottish strains from 1977 to 1983, 27 biotypes were recognized. Six biotypes accounted for 94% of all isolates; two major biogroups were identified.
