Reversible and irreversible binding of [ 3 H]flunitrazepam was investigated in membranes from cerebellum and inferior colliculus of young and adult rats. Results indicate that in adult animals predominantly BZ 1 receptors are enriched in both brain regions. In the brains of newborn animals, however, additional benzodiazepine receptor subtypes seem to exist in cerebellum as well as in inferior colliculus.
