— The activities of aromatic amino acid decarboxylase (EC 4.1.1.26) in various ganglia, nerve trunks, and individual identifiable neurons of Aplysia culifornica were measured. The distribution of the decarboxylase enzyme is ubiquitous throughout the central nervous system of the Aplysia . Every Aplysia neuron tested contained some decarboxylase activity. The presence of this particular synthetic enzyme in an Aplysia neuron, therefore, cannot be used to classify these neurons as ‘aminergic’.
