SUMMARY Several means for inhibiting degradation of free ribonucleotides in brain tissue have been investigated, along with extraction agents that minimize subsequent breakdown. The conditions selected are suitable for isolation of single nerve cells without appreciable loss in triphosphate levels, and thus, provide means for turnover studies at the cellular level by isotope incorporation in the free nucleotides.
