Summary Albumin, group‐specific component (Gc), α‐fetoprotein (AFP) and total soluble protein have been measured in amniotic fluids from 32 pregnancies complicated by an anencephalic fetus and in 32 matched controls. The concentrations of total protein and the three individual proteins were significantly increased in the abnormal pregnancies, though only AFP was sufficiently elevated to have diagnostic potential.
