Summary Haematological and obstetrical data were collected from 32 pregnant women with β‐thalassaemia minor. Twenty of these were given folate supplements throughout pregnancy; the remainder did not receive folic acid. Folic acid did not affect the course of anaemia and there was no statistical difference in the haematological parameters in the two groups, both in the antenatal and the immediate postnatal period. There was no excess of obstetrical complications in either of the two groups.
