Summary Three cases of amoebic cervicitis are described and genital amoebiasis is discussed. Patients present with vaginal discharge, pain and ulcers on the cervix, vagina and vulva and diarrhoea is frequently present as well. The diagnosis of amoebiasis is usually made clinically but can be confirmed by direct examination of vaginal discharge or scrapings from ulcers, in cytological smears and on histopathological examination of biopsy material. There is a good response to specific therapy. Factors in transmission are discussed.
