Summary The daily excretion of non‐conjugated oestrogens was measured by a simple radioimmunoassay in samples collected throughout a single menstrual cycle by each of four women. Excretion of non‐conjugated oestrogens was low (50 to 200 ng./24 hours) during the first seven days of the cycle and increased abruptly to give maximum excretion (200 to 600 ng./24 hours) between days nine and thirteen. More oestrogen was excreted during the luteal phase than in the early follicular phase of the cycle. Measurement of urinary non‐conjugated oestrogen may therefore provide a convenient and reliable means of assessing ovarian function in women receiving gonadotrophin therapy for infertility.
