Summary Brachial palsy is caused by traction injury to the brachial plexus during delivery. The present study demonstrates the very high incidence in breech deliveries if the Mauriceau‐Smellie‐Veit manoeuvre is used. This method should be abandoned in favour of forceps delivery for the aftercoming head.
