Summary One thousand unselected antenatal patients were investigated for evidence of gonorrhoea, trichomoniasis, moniliasis and serological evidence of syphilis. Two cases of gonorrhoea were found–one in the group screened at the initial booking visit while a second case was detected on repeat screening after the emergence of suspicious symptoms. The incidence of trichomoniasis was 8.9 per cent and moniliasis 22.3 per cent. Trichomonal infection was best detected by routine cytology smears whereas culture on Sabouraud's medium proved the more efficient method of diagnosing monilial infection.
