Summary The technique for sterilization by posterior colpotomy and the Pomeroy method is described. The operation was attempted in 128 cases and was successful in 123. The main cause of failure was gross obesity. The main advantage over abdominal sterilization is the relatively trivial postoperative pain and the short duration of hospital stay (3.3 days compared with 7.2 days for abdominal sterilization).
