Summary Blood acid‐base status was studied in 75 patients during pregnancy and about 50 patients after delivery. In all 75 patients, whether they had normal or uncomplicated prenancies, there was metabolic acidosis and respiratory alkalosis during pregnancy. Reversal of these changes is not complete so far as the respiratory component is concerned during the first week of the puerperium.
