Summary An increase in the level of amniotic fluid uric acid as pregnancy advanced was found in a series of 100 cases. An amniotic fluid uric acid value of more than 8.5 mg. per 100 ml. indicates a fetus of 38 weeks gestation or more. There was no correlation with any concomitant maternal condition nor with maternal plasma uric acid levels.
