Summary Two patients are described in whom investigation of recurrent abortion in the first trimester led to a diagnosis of coeliac disease. It is suggested that the diagnosis of an organic malabsorption syndrome with folate deficiency be considered in such patients, as well as the more frequent dietetic folate deficiency.
