Summary A trial of the Vabra aspirator, a sterile disposable suction curette, was carried out on 60 patients. The apparatus is designed to allow full curettage of the uterine cavity to be performed without anaesthetic on an outpatient basis. The method produced satisfactory specimens for diagnostic histology in all but four cases. Patient acceptability was high and side effects were minimal.
