AIRS. 'l., aged 37, \.cas seen by the llouse Surgeon of the. Out-door Ikpartnient of the Ilundee Maternity l iospital on the 5111 of Xlarch, 1925. T h e history w a s that on the previous day, thinking she was in labour, the patient k f t her house \vil l i the intention of going to the Maternity, but fainted on the n a y and returned home. O n a message being sent for assistance a nurse from the Ilospital found the patient somewhat collapsed, with very rapid breathing and not in labour. T h e case \\as reported to the House Surgeon, who, on visiting the patient, found her loolting very ill, sick and vomiting; temperature 102~, and pulse-rate I 12. She complained of abdominal pain, but did not seem to be in labour. H e sent her into Hospital, where 1 saw her soon after admission. I t was obvious that this was not a normal case. I t was very difficult to get a coherent history from the patient, but I subsequently ascertained that she had a child 19 years ago, labour being normal. Her health since then had been fairly good, and she was able to follow her usual occupation as a Mill Worker. Her last menstruation was in April, 1924, and she was seen by her doctor two months later, as she was uncertain of her condition. She was told that she was pregnant, but did not seem to require any special treatment. She first presented herself at the Antenatal Department of the Hospital in October in order to arrange for her confinement. She was then supposed to be about five months pregnant, and was told to report herself later, but failed to do so. She expected to be confined about the end of January. At the beginning of the year she was seen by a nurse on account of abdominal pain and slight uterine hanorrhage , but i t lvas not thought necessary to send her into Hospital. The patient stated that f a t a l movements ceased a t this date.
