Milk is the most important Welsh farm product, but it is of course in surplus in the EEC. Conventional systems for increasing milk production are inefficient in energy and therefore costly because of their dependence on fertilizers and concentrates. Costs could be reduced by better utilization of grass, perhaps including clover to fix nitrogen. There is also potential for making the UK more self‐sufficient by increasing the fat content of milk.
