THE MMBS role and the philosophy behind the market and MMB requirements for producers wishing to become producer‐retailers, producer‐processors or producer‐manufacturers is explored. While the main conditions are described, the need for adequate planning of any retail business venture is stressed. The marketing considerations suggest it is appropriate to conduct market research and to be aware of the possible effects of competition. The MMB can provide practical help and advice in arriving at a balanced business decision.
