Consideration of those research projects at NIRD related to the dairy industry shows that there have been numerous changes over the past five years mostly initiated by the research workers themselves. The influence of the Joint Consultative Organization on these changes appears to be small and restricted mainly to an effect on research attitudes. The wide range of NIRD research, from the animal through to dairy products, has important stimulatory advantages for the research worker especially when common research themes are established. Examples of this aspect are mentioned and illustrated by particular reference to the importance of bacterial inhibitors in milk and adhesion of bacteria to surfaces.
