There are centuries of writings on forecasting the future, including the framing of ideal worlds, and sometimes warning against forms of society to be avoided. The paper attempts a broad survey of the more important literature, including examples which have a specific bearing on the subject matter of home economics, and suggests that some knowledge of this intellectual area has interesting possibilities for home economists in education and elsewhere.
