Statistics relating to fire accidents are used to show the need for the retention of the Nightdresses (Safety) Regulations which will require amendment following publication of BS 5438. Reference is also made to the current approach in Australia and possible developments in South Africa. Consideration is also given to the regulations for inflammable textile fabrics of the Fabrics (Misdescriptions) Regulations and how these affect future developments.
