A cardiotachograph (ECTG) for recording short term changes in heart rate of rats after electric brain stimulation is described. This instrument provides instantaneous graphical display of the electrocardiotachogram, showing the ratio of increase or decrease in heart rate regardless of the basal rate. The output voltage is proportional to the logarithm of the frequency of the electrocardiographic (EKG) signal. Stimulation artifacts are minimized by means of a filter network.
