SUMMARY The authors report the accidental death by positional asphyxia of three individuals with cerebral palsy occurring after they had been placed in bed for the night. During the five‐year period between 1984 and 1989, 12 per cent of deaths from positional asphyxia in King County, Washington, involved individuals with cerebral palsy. Such accidents are similar to those occurring among healthy young children, perhaps because both groups have limited motor skills. Further research into accidents among disabled persons may clarify their special risks and possibly lead to modifications in bed design. RÉSUMÉ Asphyxie de position chez certains grands I.M.O.C. Les auteurs ràpportent la mort accidentelle par asphyxie de position de trois I.M.O.C. après qu'ils aient été mis au lit pour la nuit. Durant la période de cinq ans, entre 1984 et 1989, 12 pour cent des décès par asphyxie de position dans le comté de King, Washington, concernaient des I.M.O.C. In den fünf Jahren von 1981 bis 1989 waren im King County, Washington, 12 Prozent der Todesfälle durch Positionsasphyxie Patienten mit Cerebralparese. Solche Unglücksfälle ähneln denen, die bei gesunden Kleinkindern auftreten, vielleicht weil beide Gruppen begrenzte motorische Fähigkeiten besitzen.
