SUMMARY A retrospective study was done on the effects of a change in the design of ankle‐foot orthoses used in the treatment of 29 hemiplegic children. Nine of 13 children treated with plantarflexed ankle‐foot orthoses required surgery, compared with only one of 16 with dorsiflexed ankle‐foot orthoses. This difference is highly significant. RÉSUMÉ Caractéristiques des orthéses chevilles‐pied dans le traitement du membre inférieur spastique Une étude rétrospective a porté sur les effets des changements dans le dessin d'orthèses cheville‐pied utilisés dans le traitement de 29 enfants hémiplégiques. La chirurgie fut nécessaire chez neuf des 13 enfants traités par orthèse cheville‐pied en flexion plantaire et seulement dans un cas sur 16 pour les orthéses cheville‐pied en flexion plantaire. La différence est hautement significative. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Charakteristika der Knöchel‐Fuß Korrektur bei der Behandlung der spastischen unteren Extremität Es wurde eine retrospektive Studie über die Ergebnisse einer geänderten Knöchel‐FußKorrektur bei der Behandlung von 29 Kinder mit Hemiplegie durchgeführt. Neun von 13 Kindern, die mit einer plantarflektierten Knöchel‐FußKorrektur behandelt worden waren, mußen opriert werden, verglichen mit nur einem von 16 mit dorsiflektierter Knöchel‐Fuß Korrektur. Dieser Unterschied ist hoch signifikant. RESUMEN Caracteristicas de la ortesis del tobillo en el manejo de la extremidad inferior espástica Se huzo un estudio retrospectivo sobre los efectos de un cambio en el tipo de ortesis del tobillo en el tratamiento de 29 niños hemipléjicos. Neuve de los 13 niños tratados con ortesis de tobillo con flexion plantar, necesitaron intervencion quirurgica en comparación con uno solo de los 16 con ortesis en flexion dorsal. Esta diferencia es altamente significativa.
