Carcinoma Associated with Myelomeningocele

SUMMARY A case is described of an epidermal carcinoma developing at the site of a myelomeningocele in a 50‐year‐old man. As in the three other cases of this condition which have been reported, the patient died, which reinforces the suggestion that possible malignant changes, though rare, should be taken into account when considering closure of such dysraphic lesions during childhood. RÉSUMÉ Association de carcinome et de myéloméningocèle L'article rapporte l'existence d'un carcinome épidermoïde se développant sur un myéloméningocèle chez un homme de 50 ans. Comme dans les trois autres cas rapportant cette association, le patient mourût; ainsi se trouve renforcée l'idée d'une transformation maligne possible, bien que rare, et il faut en tenir compte lorsqu'on envisage la fermeture de telles lésions dysraphiques durant l'enfance. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Carcinom und Myelomeningocele Bei einem 50 jährigen Mann entwickelte sich an der Stelle einer Myelomeningocele ein epidermales Carcinom. Wie die drei anderen Falle mit demselben Befund, über die schon berichtet wurde, ist dieser Patient gestorben. Hierdurch wird die Vermutung bestärkt, daß eine maligne Entartung–wenn auch selten–möglich ist und man sollte daran denken, wenn der Verschluß einer solchen dysraphischen Lasion im Kindesalter erwogen wird.
