SUMMARY In Yorkshire, the town of Barnsley has established a centre for physically and mentally handicapped children and adults. The intention is to encourage the handicapped to help themselves towards rehabilitation and, through contact with others at the centre, to enable them to develop an understanding of handicaps other than their own. A commercially viable manufacturing workshop has now been developed, allied to a training centre for adults and a social centre. The advantages and problems of the scheme are discussed. RÉSUMÉ Approche autre des besoins des handicapés Dans le Yorkshire, la ville de Barnsley a construit un centre pour handicapés physiques et mentaux, enfants et adultes. L'intention est d̂encourager les handicapés à s'aider eux mêmes dans leur réadaptation et, á partir du contact avec leur camarades de centre, á les rendre capables de comprendre les handicaps autres que les leurs. Un atelier protégé, commercialement rentable, a été mis en place, associé à un centre d̂apprentissage pour adulte et à un centre social. Les avantages et les problèmes de ce type d̂organisation sont discutés. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Eine weitere Art, behinderten Kindem zu helfen Die Stadt Barnsley in Yorkshire hat ein Zentrum für physisch und geistig behinderte Kinder und Erwachsene errichtet. Die Absicht ist, den Behinderten zu ermutigen, sich selbst zur Rehabilitation hin zu helfen, und durch den Kontakt mit anderen Behinderten im Zentrum Verständnis zu entwickeln für andere als ihre eigenen Behinderungen. Eine kommerziell geführte Werkstatt wurde jetzt errichtet, die an Trainingszentren für Erwachsene und ein gesellschaftliches Zentrum angeschlossen ist. Die Schwierigkeiten und Vorteile dieser Einrichtung werden diskutiert. RESUMEN Otro aspecto de las necesidades de los minusválidos En Yorkshire, la ciudad de Barnsley ha establecido un centro para niños y adultos con minusvalia fisica y mental. La intentión es animar a los minusválidos a ayudarse a mismos hacia su rehabilitatión y, a través de contactos con los otros en el centro, facilitarles el desarrollar una comprensión de unas dificultades que noe son las propias. Se ha organizado un taller manual comercialmente viable, ligado a un centro de entrenamiento para adultos y a un centro social. Se discuten los problemas y ventajas de este plan.
