SUMMARY Standardised psychometric tests designed to measure aspects of visual perception were applied to a group of hydrocephalic children. A severe deficit in the appreciation of visuo‐spatial relationships was found, together with an inability to distinguish the key features of a stimulus from irrelevant information within a complex display. Two further experiments were carried out in order to demonstrate that the true nature of these disturbances was as described and that the findings could not be attributed to artifacts in the testing situation. RÉSUMÉ Effets de l'hydrocephalic sur la perception Des tests spcyhométriques standardises destinés à apprécier la perception visuelle ont été appliqués à un groupe d'enfants hydrocephales. Il a été noté un déficit grave dans l'appréciation des relations visuo‐spatiales ainsi qu'une incapacitéà isoler une image‐stimulus au sein d'une figure complexe. Deux expérimentations ultérieures ont été entreprises pour démontrer que la véritable nature des troubles était celle que Ton avait decrite et ne pouvait pas être attribuée à des artéfacts liés a la situation du test. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Des Effekt des Hydrocephalus auf die Wahrnehmung Standardisierte psychometrische Tests zur Messung der visuellen Perception wurden auf eine Gruppe von Kindern mit Hydrocephalus angewandt. Ein schwerer Defekt in der Wahrnehmung räumlich‐visueller Beziehungen wurde zusammen mit der Unfàhigkeit gefunden, wesentliche Merkmale eines Stimulus von unwichtigen Informationen innerhalb eines komplexen Biides zu unterscheiden. Es wurden zwei weitere Experimente durch‐geführt, um zu zeigen, daß die wahre Natur dieser Störungen von der beschriebenen Art ist und die Befunde nicht auf Artefakte in der Testsituation zurückgeführt werden können. RESUMEN Efectos de la hidrocefalia sobre la perception Se aplicaron a un grupo de niños con hidrocefalia tests psicométricos standard, para medir aspectos de la percepción visual. Se halló un grave déficit en la apreciación de la relación visuo‐espacial, junto con una inhabilidad para distinguir los caracteres clave de un estimulo de entre una informatión sin importancia en una exhibitión compleja. Se realizaron dos otros experimentos para demostrar que la verdadera naturaleza de estas alteraciones era tal como se habia descrito y que los hallazgos no podian ser atribuidos a artefactos de los tests.
