SUMMARY Between 1964 and 1970, 105 Nigerian infants and children with spina bifida cystica were admitted to the University College Hospital, Ibadan. The disease is comparatively rare in Nigeria and its incidence in the population is not yet known. In hospital practice, which shows that spina bifida cystica is commoner in males than in females, the increase in the number of patients with this disease presents problems in management. RÉSUMÉ Description et problemès de spina bifida à Ibadan, Nigeria 105 nourrissons et enfants Nigériens, atteints de spina bifida ont été admis entre 1964 et 1970 à l'University College Hospital d'Ibadan. La maladie est relativement rare au Nigeria et sa fréquence dans la population n'est pas encore connue. En pratique hospitalière, ou le spina bifida est plus fréquent chez le garcon que chez la fille, l'accroissement du nombre de malades atteints pose de gros problemes de traitement. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Die Erscheinungen und Probleme der Spina bifida cystica in Ibadan, Nigeria Zwischen 1964 und 1970 wurden 105 nigerianische Kinder mit Spina bifida cystica im University College Hospital, Ibadan, aufgenommen. Die Erkrankung ist in Nigeria vergleichsweise selten. Ihre Häufigkeit in der Bevölkerung ist noch nicht genau bekannt. Im Krankenhausbetrieb, der anzeigt, daß die Spina bifida cystica bei Knaben häufiger auftritt als bei Mädchen, stellt die zunehmende Anzahl von Patienten mit dieser Erkankung ein Pflegeproblem dar.
