SUMMARY This paper reports the early diagnosis of hydrocephalus in 36 newborn infants with cystic dysraphia through the use of postnatal and preoperative echoencephalographic studies. The results are discussed and compared with those of previous investigations. Special consideration is given to the application of the findings to the neurosurgical management of progressive hydrocephalus. RÉSUMÉ Echoencephalographie post‐natale en cas de dysraphie kystique Les auteurs rapportent le diagnostic précoce de l'hydrocéphalie chez 36 nouveaux nés présentant une dysraphie kystique par l'étude échoencéphalographique post‐natale et pré‐opératoire. Les résultats sont discutés et comparés à ceux d'investigation antérieure. Une attention spéciale est accordée à l'utilisation des renseignements recueillis pour le traitement neuro‐chirurgical d'hydrocephalie progressive. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Postnatale Echoencephalographie bei der Cystischen Dysraphie Dieser Artikel beschaftigt sich mit der Frühdiagnose des Hydrocephalus bei 36 Neuge‐borenen mit Cystischer Dysraphie durch postnatale und preoperative echoencephalo‐graphische Untersuchungen. Die Ergebnisse werden diskutiert und mit denen früherer Untersuchungen verglichen. Die Anwendung der Befunde auf neurochirurgische Maßnah‐men beim progressiven Hydrocephalus wird besonders eingehend behandelt. RESUMEN Ecoencefalografia postnatal en la disrqfta cistica Esta communicatión habla del diagnóstico precoz de la hidrocefalia en 36 recién nacidos con disrafia cfstica gracias al uso de estudios ecoencefalográficos en las fases postnatal y preoperativa. Se discuten los resultados y se comparan con los de investigaciones previas. Se da especial consideration a la aplicación de los hallazgos en el tratamiento neuro‐quirúrgico de la hidrocefalia progresiva.
