SUMMARY The strategy of the approach to recognising, assessing and helping the backward child includes: recognition of delay in development; assessment of possible causes of delay in the child's visual, auditory, language, motor, intellectual, ‘drive’, emotional and social dimensions; search for the cause or causes of any handicaps identified; collating the findings into a comprehensive assessment of the child; and making a plan of the management. RÉSUMÉ Comment le clinicien aborde le probléme de Venfant arriéré La stratégic de l'attaque pour reconnaitre, évaluer et aider 1'enfant arriéré comprend: la reconnaissance du délai du développement; lapos;évaluation des causes possibles de délai dans les dimensions visuelles, auditives, linguistiques, motrices, intellectuelles, ‘d'allant’, émotives et sociales de l'enfant; la recherche de la cause ou des causes de tout handicap identifié; le rassemblement des observations en une évaluation complète de l'enfant; et lapos;établissement d'un plan pour la conduite à tenir. RESUMEN La investigatión clinica del niño retardado Para reconocer, evaluar, y ayudar al niño retardado, hay que realizar el programe siguiente: El reconocimiento de un atraso de desarrollo. La evaluatión de las causas posibles de un atraso de lenguaje, de ‘impulso’, y da habilidad visual, auditiva, motriz, intelectual, emocional, y social. Buscar la causa o causas de todo impedimento que se encuentre. Colacionar los hallazgos para hacer una evaluaci6n comprensiva del nifio. Hacer un programa de tratamiento. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Eine klinische Zugang zum Problem des zurückgebliebenen Kindes Die Strategic der Methode zur Feststellung, Einschätzung und Hilfe für das zurück‐gebliebene Kind beeinschliesst: die Feststellung der Verzogerung in der Entwicklung; die Einschätzung der möglichen Ursachen der Verzögerung im visuellen, auditor‐ischen, sprachlichen, motorischen, intellektuellen ‘Drang’, in den emotionalen und sozialen Dimensionen des Kindes; Suche für die Ursache oder Ursachen der identifizierten Handikaps; das Fügen der Befunde in eine urnfassende Einschätzung des Kindes; und die Aufstellung eines Planes für die Behandlung.
